The first pan-Armenian citizens’ assembly – the Convention of the Future Armenian, was held in Yerevan. Numerous guests and representatives of partner organizations attended the opening ceremony. Noubar Afeyan, co-Founder of The FUTURE ARMENIAN initiative, delivered the opening speech, while fellow co-Founder Ruben Vardanyan addressed the audience via video. His Eminence Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan presented the Patriarchal message of His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians. Students of the Armath laboratory of Vardenis High School, who developed the lottery-style computer program with which the Convention participants were selected, also gave a speech.
Artak Apitonian, Executive Director of The FUTURE ARMENIAN Development Foundation, then introduced the format of the upcoming discussions to the participants.
On the first day of the Convention, the Goal of Historic Responsibility was discussed. The eponymous Expert Committee is headed by Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Pontifical Legate of Western Europe and Representative of the Armenian Church to the Holy See. On March 10, the participants familiarized themselves with the scenarios and programs developed by experts (“Historic Responsibility”), discussed these topics with other participants, and ultimately voted for the ideas and programs they approved.
As a reminder, the Goals of “Armenia-Diaspora Unity” and “Growing Population” will be discussed on March 11 and 12, respectively.
